Hi, my name is Jay and I am the owner of HomeSideSecurity. I thought it would be nice to share a little on  how I ended up here.

Going back to 2015 my back ground was in the professional I.T sector . I worked across many platforms from networking, system builds and design, to data security and automation as well as cable management. 

My introduction to CCTV started when I was a victim of crime on 2 occasions. After you have been a victim, every noise you hear, every floor board creek, any little thing during the night can bring you from a resting state to an alert state. I decided at that point to invest and upgrade my security by installing CCTV. 

Now!!, don't get me wrong here, it was not the greatest install !!!, I had a cable here and a cable hanging out there and the initial positioning of the cameras was pretty poor. The system I installed was from a high street company and what I was buying was based on what "I thought" was good rather than a knee jerk emotional reaction.... Turns out, it was a knee jerk emotional reaction and the system that I look back at now was average at best!

So, I now had CCTV coverage!! I was now feeling more in control and happy that I had taken the initiative. 

Not so long after, our street was hit again., two of my neighbours had become victims as well. I had some footage but my cameras were (at the time) not good enough to give the quality.

I was disappointed when I discovered that I had installed CCTV (which was OK) but did not have that extra kick to help.

A year later, I had the opportunity to take redundancy from my professional IT job. The options were available  to move to alternate teams or to find another position elsewhere. I had choices and was provided more than enough time to consider my options. "Time....yes, time"... Maybe this was working in my favour, I could sit and ponder my options.  "What if I did this?, what if I moved there?".

I worked out my options in so much detail that it was making my brain spin. But for some reason at the time the little voice in the back of my head was saying leave and start fresh.

I had previously helped members of my family with  installing CCTV and offering the little knowledge I had from my own experience. It began to make sense, the satisfaction in helping others and offering advice means a lot to me and I wanted to explore this avenue.

From this I decided to spend time,  a lot of time dedicating myself to the application of CCTV. I was beginning my journey and I was testing, researching, discussing with suppliers and arranging demo days. I was now realising that there was more to CCTV than just buying and installing. I began to absorb and take on board so much information, so much detail on CCTV not only from a hardware and software but also the application and commissioning of CCTV.

I felt comfortable knowing that my research and knowledge I have acquired as well as keeping abreast of this expanding technology can be applied to help others and to make sure that not just any old CCTV system gets installed, but the correct CCTV system gets installed.

We live in a time when CCTV is becoming more available to the public and we have a lot of CCTV systems being installed that are not up to scratch with no aftercare.
